"O Jerusalem" meticulously re-creates the historic struggle surrounding the creation of the State of Israel
in 1948. At the center of these events are two young, American friends - one Jewish, the other Arab. The film is told from
the alternating viewpoints of the Jews, Arabs and Brits, all of whom collide in their fight for the control of Jerusalem while
bringing to the forefront themes of courage, terrorism, deprivation, politics and a strong sense of morality. Their involvement
takes them from the streets of New York to The Holy Land, where they risk their lives – making incredible sacrifices
along the way – to fight for what they believe in, as the city of their dreams teeters on the brink of destruction.
Based on historical accounts from the best-selling novel Larry Collins and Dominique Lapierre.

I WAS SADAAM'S SON
Latif Yahia, Karl Wendl In Iraq, where political leaders have traditionally been the
targets of assassination, there exists an institution called fidai (body double). The author, who bore a remarkable resemblance
to Saddam Hussein's oldest son, Uday, was pulled out of the front lines during the Iran-Iraq War and transformed into an exact
likeness of Uday. From that vantage point he was, he reports, privy to all the machinations and horrific excesses perpetrated
on the Iraqi people by the family and government of Saddam Hussein. After serving in that capacity from 1987 to 1991, Yahia
was imprisoned and tortured before being released?then fled to Europe, where he still lives. The author's message seems to
be a warning to the rest of the world: "If you thought Saddam was a cruel tyrant, just wait until Uday takes over!" Although
this work is easy enough to read, it is filled with graphic details of torture, murder, and rape. Recommended only for large
collections in the subject area.

Israel, Jerusalem
FROM TIME IMMEMORIAL
Joan Peters
The author strikes a heavy blow against the braod consensus about "the Palestinians" and the assumption
that Palestinian rights are at the heart of the Arab-Israeli conflict.
From Time Immemorial supplies abundant justification for reversing the moral and legal presumptions
that have cast Israel in the role of defendant before the court of world opinion.
This book contains invaluable information deserving the attention of anyone seriously concerned with Middle
East conflicts.

A PLACE AMONG THE NATIONS
Benjamin Netanyahu
During the Gulf War, Netanyahu, former Prime Minister of Israel, showed a CNN reporter a large map of the
Middle East. "Here is a map of the Arab world," he said, "and here is Israel." He continued speaking and demonstrated the
contrast by covering up the State of Israel entirely with his thumb.
How has such a miniscule nation become the hostile target of so many nations, Arab and West alike? Mr. Netanyahu punctures the myriad falsehoods leveled against the tiny nation of Israel today by using the facts of
history, both ancient and modern, to establish Israel's case forcefully. This book is a passionate, closely reasoned work
of history and current affairs. A must-read for concerned Christians.

BATTLEGROUND: FACT AND FANTASY IN PALESTINE
Samuel Katz
The author outlines the origins of the Arab-Israeli conflict and why it continues. With a complete history
of the Jewish restoration through Israel's re-birth in 1948 and 1967s explosive Six-Day War, to the escalating political actions
that led to today's crisis, Battleground: Fact and Fantasy in Palestine challenges the myths and half-truths that
cloud the facts behind the Arab-Israeli tensions. This book provides a fully documented in-depth analysis of the key problems,
dramatic decisions and bitter hostilities that forged the militant politics of the Middle East.

O JERUSALEM
Larry Collins, Dominique Lapierre
In this dramatic and impeccably researched book, the authors recount the events of the most crucial period
in Jerusalem's history: Spring of 1948; British troops leaving Palestine; the Jews declare the birth of the State of Israel;
conflict origins that rages on bitterly still today.
Against this historical background is set the record of the indivdual participants, with world figures such
as David Ben Gurion, Golda Meir, Glubb Pasha, as well as ordinary people - both Arab and Jew - caught in the intractable web
of violence.

Jewish Roots of Our Faith
OUR FATHER ABRAHAM
Marvin R. Wilson
The roots of Christianity run deep into Hebrew soil, but many Christians are regrettably uniformed about
the rich Hebrew heritage of the church. This book delineates the link between Judaism and Christianity, between the Old and
New Testament, and calls Chrisitans to re-examine their Hebrew roots so as to effect a more authentically biblical lifestyle.
As an introduction to the world of Hebrew thought, this book is bilbical, historical, and cultural in nature.
It is also personal and passionate, reflecting the author's spiritual pilgrimage and dialogue with Jews.

Holocaust
NIGHT
Elie Wiesel
In Nobel laureate Elie Wiesel's memoir Night, a scholarly, pious teenager is wracked with guilt at
having survived the horror of the Holocaust and the genocidal campaign that consumed his family. His memories of the nightmare
world of the death camps present him with an intolerable question: How can the God he once so fervently believed in have allowed
these monstrous events to occur? There are no easy answers in this harrowing book, which probes life's essential riddles with
the lucid anguish only great literature achieves. It marks the crucial first step in Wiesel's lifelong project to bear witness
for those who died.

DVD - HERITAGE: CIVILIZATION & THE JEWS
Abba Eban
Amazon.com Review Over the course of nine hours, this sumptuous PBS documentary from
1984 chronicles the history of the Jewish people from biblical times through the 20th century. This is not, however, a documentary
solely about Judaism; it is instead an in-depth look at the history of Jewish interaction with the world at large, a look
at how Jews have shaped communities around them and how the communities around them have shaped the Jews. Host Abba Eban,
who has served as foreign minister of Israel and Israeli ambassador to the U.N., is authoritative and knowledgeable in his
explications. Using paintings, artifacts, modern cinematography of ancient sites, readings, and theatrical music, Eban brings
drama and tension to events long past. The spanning of five millennia necessitates at times briefer detail than a viewer may
like, yet it also provides a sampling of history that may provoke the viewer into seeking more information. This marvelous
set should be experienced by anyone who desires a greater understanding of the Western world and the role of the Jews in shaping
it. --Jenny Brown
DVD - ISRAEL: A NATION IS BORN
Abba Eban
This six-part chronicle of the birth and development of the Jewish state is hosted and narrated by former
Israeli Ambassador to the U.S. Abba Eban, who also hosted Heritage: Civilization and the Jews. Eban, who played a pivotal
role in realizing the dream of a Jewish state, points out that "the series is designed to provide an essential context to
an inspiring human story."
Among those featured in interviews and rare archival footage are U.S. Presidents Harry Truman
and Richard Nixon, and key leaders Winston Churchill, Anwar Sadat, David Ben-Gurion, Golda Meir, Menachem Begin, and Yitzhak
Rabin. Together with Eban's firsthand testimony, this series achieves a diverse perspective of both the Arab and Israeli experience.
According to Eban, Israel: A Nation Is Born is a "depiction of the turbulent and dramatic history of Israel, through
the conflicts and tensions of five decades, climaxing in the brighter prospects of Arab/Israeli peace."
SCHINDLER'S LIST
Steven Spielberg
Adapted from the best-selling book by Thomas Keneally and filmed in Poland with an emphasis on absolute authenticity,
Spielberg's masterpiece ranks among the greatest films ever made about the Holocaust during World War II. It's a film about
heroism with an unlikely hero at its center--Catholic war profiteer Oskar Schindler (Liam Neeson), who risked his life and
went bankrupt to save more than 1,000 Jews from certain death in concentration camps.
